Healing Naturally through Alternative Medicine

Hey there,

I'd love to hear your thoughts about massaging the stomach and it's importance. Both physically and emotionally.

What importance does it hold to massage the stomach? What happens physically? What happens emotionally? What does it mean when people don't want their stomach massaged?

There are of course physical benefits of stomach massage. Studies done by the Touch Research Institute in Miami, FL, shows how it aids the digestive system. There are other things as well of course.

The emotional aspect is a bit harder to put words and research onto. We tend to have our feelings in our stomach. Gut-feelings, nervousness, fear and what not. We all feel it in the stomach.

My experience is that it can loosen up for emotional tension and help open a person emotionally. It can be a very strong and profound experience as well. I've had a client cry after a massage (full body, including the stomach) because it was so liberating for her. She's a stressed young mum, and it was the first time after giving birth she had gotten a massage and the tenderness that came with it.

There's the holistic and spiritual aspect as well. The hara and solar plexus chakras which can be opened and stimulated during a stomach massage, making it a spiritually liberating experience and aid with personal growth.

I'm looking for more thoughts and experiences upon this topic. What have you experienced, what are your thoughts, what is your knowledge?

Cheers!
Pia

Interesting topic!
My perspective is that abdominal massage is good for many aliments. This is in part because it stimulates points on the belly that regulate digestion and correct stagnant Qi. not to mention that it feels good!

Also- all of the energy channels (nadis) meet in the navel area so you are really treating the whole body when you do it!

Do you have any thoughts upon why some people do not want a stomach massage and what's at play there?

not sure @ that one- possible abuse history?

The one I in particular have in mind certainly have confidence and self-value issues, which of course is caused by something, but what I do not know.

I think it's risky though to just 'assume' that everybody who doesn't want a stomach massage has experienced abuse.

Any experiences out there about this situation?
